Geocache Description:

35mm film canister, at one of the few remaining covered bridges in Vinton County.

Arbaugh Bridge, is one of the few remaining covered bridges in Vinton County. According to the website: (visit link) Arbaugh Bridge is also known as Aikens, Eakins Mill, McLaughlin Bridge, or Geer's Mill Bridge. It is 111 feet long and was built in 1871 at a cost of $800.

Gilman & Ward Co. built the bridge, which spans Raccoon Creek (the longest creek in the United States). Of all the covered bridges in Vinton County, this is the only one that you can still drive through. The remainder are blocked off, and have a modern bridge for vehicle traffice alongside.

A nice map of the Vinton County Bridges can be found here: (visit link)

Be sure to visit the nearby waymarks - the abandoned Wilton School is nearby, and can be visited.
