Soccer, Softball & Swimming Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

jacksonb: Sadly, it is time to archive this cache.

Ten years ago this month, I found my first geocache. I quickly fell in love with geocaching and by Memorial Day weekend 2006, I was ready to hide my first cache. The result was this cache. I lived in Paragould at the time with my family and the community center was brand new, so it seemed like the perfect place for a cache. The original container lasted nine years. By the time it needed to be replaced, we had moved away to Southeast Arkansas. Last Memorial Day, my wife and I made the drive up to Paragould for the sole purpose of replacing the cache container. I hoped it would last another nine years, but it didn't make it even one full year. Rather than replace it again, I will sadly archive it.

I never imagined this cache would last ten years or that 339 geocachers would find it. I have enjoyed reading every log. While I will continue on looking for geocaches and enjoying the journey, Soccer, Softball & Swimming has reached the end of the road.

Geocache Description:

The Paragould Community Center is a great place for a pretty easy to locate cache.

UPDATED: 5/23/2015
The cache container has been replaced! It is slightly smaller than the original, but has room for a small amount of swag. It has a brand new log and Sharpie. There is also a cash prize for the first to find the new container! This Memorial Day weekend is the 9th anniversary of the placement of this cache. I hope this new container lasts another 9 years.

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION:
This is our first cache placement and we think it will be an enjoyable one.

The Paragould Community Center opened in 2005 and is a source of great pride for the city. There are many cities much larger than Paragould that don't have anything as nice as this complex of soccer and softball fields, 4 swimming pools, 2 basketball courts and other facilities. All it needed was a geocache.

The coordinates are the average of 6 measurements, all with an accuracy of 13' to 15', using a Garmin etrex Legend. Actually, I got the exact same latitude every time and I got the same longitude 4 out of 6 times. The other 2 times it was off by .001 minutes.

The cache is a 5" x 5" x 3" sealable plastic container. It initially contains: a $5 Walmart gift card for the FTF (cause you can always use $5 at Walmart), 2 AA batteries (in case your GPS batteries need replacing), a Jr. Slinky, a Coke bottle cap, a sea shell, a compass, a Spiderman bouncy ball, a VW Beetle toy car, an empty rifle cartridge, 2 Alabama quarters (ROLL TIDE!), and a Paris, Texas lapel pin. It also has a log book, pencil and pencil sharpener (please leave it with the cache).

Hopefully your GPS will lead you right to it without any tough terrain to cross. If you want a clue, look beyond center field. The encrypted hint should give it away.
