Geocache Description:

We placed this cache to bring you to a place I have been going to since I was a young lad. Growing up in Milkt. and spending my summers at a friends camp on South Twin lake, his Dad would take us for a ride to the spring to get drinking water and it always amazed me. The spring has a little hut built over it, rebuilt in the 80's, but I remember a hut over it back in the 60's. The water boils[or "Bubbles"] up out of the ground, being filtered by fine white sand. I can't tell you if it has ever been tested as safe to drink, but local camp owners still go there and get water, and I had a drink while there, so bring your water bottle if you dare, the water is crystal clear and ice cold. While driving in you will be at one point up on a beautiful "Esker" with Libby bog down off your right, and Lower East Ragged Pond down off your left, with a nice view of Ragged Mountain and the firetower in the background. We spotted a bull moose feeding in the pond on the way in and another ran across the road in front of us just after we turned off the paved road. To get to the spring, Take Rt. 11 south from Millinocket towards Brownville. From the Twin lakes rest area on your right,[just after the railrod tracks], and also a beautiful view of MT. Katahdin, continue on for about 2 1/4 miles to the L&H corp. road on your right. The road in to Cedar Lake will be opposite on your left. Go onto the L&H road for about 3.5 miles to a small road that intersects from the right at aprox. coords. N45 36.566 W068 53.315. Park there and walk the old road about 40 yards and you will find the spring on your left. The cache is further up the old road from the spring, bushwhacking not necessary. The cache is an Ammo can, with the usual trade items, though we tried to put decent trade items in to make it somewhat worthwhile. Please try to put something decent in for trade if you can, no half chewed up erasers, broken wristwatches, already been stepped on matchbox cars etc,,Please!! Enjoy the sights, remember that logging trucks have the right of way on this road, park off the road, and PLEASE..Watch out for MOOSE on Rt.11, they are everywhere. BE CAREFUL!! Happy Caching!!
