The Cairn o Mount was originally part of one of the main drove roads of Scotland,it stands close by the B974 from Fettercairn to Banchory,it was an important route for travellers between north and south,in 1296 during the war of independence Edward 1 of England and his troops used the route between Kildrummy and Kincardine estates. After Victoria and Albert bought Balmoral in 1848 game shooting became a popular pastime and is still evident by the burning of the heather to provide moorland for the grouse. The Cairns are protected monuments, please do not climb on them.
