Geocache Description:

Saltia Creek crosses the Stirling North / Quorn road at the start of the Pichi Richi pass and there is a nice little reserve on the side of the road at S 32 28.328 E 137 56.421.

It’s a great spot for a BBQ and a wander around as well as watching the steam trains crossing the bridge over the main road. It is also a fun for the kids to fossick around in the creek bed and at the base of the cliffs. Sound relaxing?? Bring a deck chair and an esky to relax… You might need them after seeking out the cache!!!!

At first glance it appears impossible to access the cache without ropes and climbing skills, using the ridgeline and or having a distinct lack of fear…

However it is possible to access the cache from a few different ways depending on your skills, nerves and fitness level.
Be careful, as it can be dangerous if you choose the wrong way.
If it seems dangerous to get to the cache you have probably chosen the wrong way!!

Watch out for falling rocks if there are people above you and be aware that the rock in this area is somewhat friable and a handhold may give way without warning.

Having said all that (my personal disclaimer)….
Once you have worked out / found the right way (or one of them at least… As there is more than one way!!) it will be hard work but it will be relatively safe with a little care taken.

I was originally going to place the cache on top of Saltia hill (An awesome view and a tough climb) but the landowner has recently closed off all access so…
DO NOT cross the fence or the ridgeline to the west as that is private property or you will get in trouble.
The ridgeline at the top of the cliffs is the boundary.
You’re on public property from the picnic / parking area to the ridge top so accessing the cache from the creek / picnic area is ok (and the only way!)

Once you have found the cache (the hard part!!) go to S 32 28.225 E 137 56.416 (not far!!) for the view and an unusual geological formation. I think this might be home to something…

Oh by the way…. Take note of how you got up here because getting down will be harder than getting to the top!!
