This cache is placed on public access land which is great for
walking in quiet wooded surroundings, enjoying excellent views of
the city of Hereford in all its splendour and offers some great
views of the surrounding countryside. (So be sure to bring your
camera and a pair of binoculars...)
Please take care on the narrow road which leads to the cache
site, it is very narrow and is only wide enough for one car at a
time, always expect to see a car coming towards you !
At the cache site the pathway has been topped with hardcore in
places by the local council to make a nice circular walk, however
some parts can be muddy at times and the path is not a level one -
there are some quite steep areas that would be unsuitable for
buggies or wheelchairs, but these can be avoided. The circular path
encompasses a nice wooded & grassy area of around 12 acres in
total with the higher ground opening out to an expanse of meadow
grasses with Beech trees, just right for a picnic or coffee break
in the peaceful surroundings.
This location can get very popular in the summer with children and
dog walkers, so in order to help avoid the muggles I have hidden
the cache in a relatively quiet location, but unfortunately not
with the best views of the city, you will have to take a short walk
around the pathway to find the best viewpoint but you are sure to
be well rewarded.
Parking is easy enough, parking for about four cars or so is
right at the base of the cache area, within a couple of hundred
feet of the cache.
Access is via steps adjacent to the parking area or via a stile
next to a locked gate further along the roadside.
You do not need to climb over any fences to discover the
cache, please do NOT step foot on the private land that surrounds
the cache area !
The cache is a small 1 Litre container in a camouflaged bag
originally containing :
Non-swap Items : Logbook, Propelling pencil & Pen
Swap Items : A Talking Pedometer with clock, a Hereford Pin
Badge, a Keyring torch, a Thermometer keyring, a Pocket radio with
torch and a Mobile phone booster to help you get a reception when
in the woods...
Please ensure that the lid to the container is securely
fastened all the way around when replacing the cache, as I was
unable to get a clip locked box the right size for the bag this is
the best I could get, the bag is waterproof so this should be
fine.
OK, when you do manage to find this cache please carefully
note where its position is and please try and replace it in the
same place ! - It's camouflaged bag makes it very difficult to
track down for maintenance (and the next cacher to find) if it is
not accurately replaced. Please take the time to do this and place
it quite far back under the hedge to avoid the attention of
muggles.
When replacing the cache I would be grateful if you could
partially re-cover with leaves, but not totally cover, best to
leave a little of the camo bag showing to give other cachers a
slight clue. Thanks.
I hope that you will enjoy the cache !
