Solum Deo Confido Traditional Cache
Knagur Green:
The cache has been removed and is no longer at the coordinates .The CO is totally out of contact, the cacher who has maintained this for the community has been in contact with the family of the cemetery ,who have requested that the cache be moved out of the cemetery but can be on the outside of the wall. With this in mind I am archiving straight away , as it is private property and leaving the area open for the cache maintainer to place their own cache in the area within the guidelines of the family. Thank you for understanding

CACHE REMOVED , PRIVATE PROPERTY DO NOT CLIMB THE FENCE Solum Deo Confido (God is our only hope) is the motto on the coat of arms of the De Wet-family. The cache is hidden at the De Wet Family Memorial in Aliwal North - it was erected to honour the contribution of the De Wet Family in the region. Pieter Jacobus de Wet and his wife as well as several family members were buried here. This cache is the first in a series about the history of the town and the area.
Pieter Jacobus de Wet and his wife, Hester, arrived in the vicinity of the hot springs near the Orange River in 1828. Their farm was later called Buffelsvlei - herds of buffalo roamed the area. The farmhouse was built on the hill overlooking the hot water springs. In 1849 the town was proclaimed by Sir Harry Smith, then governor of the Cape Colony and was called Aliwal North (Mossel Bay was Aliwal South) to commemorate Smith's victory over the Sikhs at Aliwal in India. The cache is a small 100ml screw top container - very small items can be traded. It contains a logsheet, readme-doc, 2 AAA batteries and a bounceball. PLEASE BRING OWN PEN TO FILL IN LOGSHEET.
