Geocache Description:

Littlespacemonkey's 3rd cache. This one is hidden along a bridlepath in the parish of Salle, a small village just north of Reepham.

Few people in Norfolk could direct you to the parish of Salle as it is hidden away in the countryside just north of Reepham. You could drive through the village, and apart from the occasional signpost, would not even realise you were in what was once one of the most wealthy parts of Norfolk. This is evident when you arrive at the village church, dedicated to St. Peter and St. Paul. Among the 700 or so parish churches in the county, Salle church is arguably the finest and most impressive.
In the late 14th and early 15th century, several very rich and important families lived in the parish at the same time, and the wealth generated by the wool trade ensured that no expense was spared in the construction of the church, in what is widely acknowledged to be the golden age of church building in the county. One of the families which contributed to the cost of building were the Boleyns of nearby Blickling, and if local legend is to be believed, the body of Anne Boleyn was laid to rest in the churchyard. Perhaps this is why her ghost is said to periodically return to the church, although sightings are more common at Blickling Hall.
From the cache site itself, the church dominates the skyline, and the unspoilt views remind you why we are so proud of our county to the extent that some of these secrets should be kept that way, in case they become targets for country club and golf course developers.

Once you have found the cache, another treat awaits the weary traveller in the unspoilt village of Heydon, within walking distance north of the cache site. A pint at the Earle Arms on the village green is the perfect way to sample the best that Norfolk has to offer.

There is space for parking at the north end of the track on which the cache is located, or for a more enjoyable outing you could park at Salle Church, walk to Heydon via the cache and return by a different footpath across the fields. This would make a round trip of about 4 miles.

The cache is a regular sized ammo tin crammed with the usual selection of goodies. We hope you enjoy it. Please ensure that you leave the cache as you found it. Accuracy of GPS coordinates was 19 ft.
