Wollaton hall is a grand, grade 1 listed, Elizabethan House designed by Robert Smythson and built in 1588 by Sir Francis Willoughby. It is owned by Nottingham city council and contains Nottingham’s natural history museum. There is a Gorilla and a Giraffe to look for. It’s 500 acres of Deer park, lake and gardens are yours to enjoy for a parking fee of £3 for 2 hours (Enough time to find the cache) or £5 for the whole day.
The Deer roam free so dogs must be leashed. There is also an industrial museum and a Basford beam engine that can be seen in steam on the last Sunday of the month, well worth timing your visit for. Smaller than the engine at Papplewick, but great, none the less. The staff are friendly, informative and a bit of a hoot. (visit link) for further information. There are toilets and good coffee available in the courtyard.
It is also Batman’s residence and featured in the 2012 ‘Dark knight rises’ film. Seen after 31 seconds of this clip (visit link)
The cache is a shortish Multi with 2 clues to get before finding the final container. It should take no more than 30 minutes from the Car park at N52 56.951 W001 12.735.
First find a stone shield at the base of a tree at N52 56.842 W001 12.660. How many crowns are there? Look carefully. The answer is A.
Next walk to the side of the lake at N52 56.720 W001 12.896 and count the wooden picnic benches on the right, just over the brick bridge, to give B.
Finally, how many Metal bins are there by the side of the lake, to get C.
The cache is located at N52 56.80(A+B+C) W001 12.9(B+C)(A).
The final cache location is not really secluded so keep an eye out for muggles. The park can get very busy. This is the 4th replacement so please replace cache and camouflage carefully. Thanks.
