Those driving will find ample parking just north of the cache, but do beware of approaching vehicles.
Those on public transport can use either train or bus. If train go to Fairfield Station (Hurstbridge Line). While there you should consider doing Yes But Is It Art? III (GCJTWC) by Dak's Emu Mob. Turn south at Station Street at the east end of the station, and follow this 450m to Heidelberg Road. Turn right, and walk 350m to Fairfield Park. From the large sign for the Fairfield Amphitheatre, you can follow your GPS in almost a beeline less than 900 metres to the cache. However you should veer slightly right for the bridge, or slightly left for a coffee. If by bus, you should get route 546 which will drop you right opposite Fairfield Park.
There is a trig point beside the cache and there can surely no better view of the city from anywhere. Almost 360° of uninterrupted skyline – and no buildings within several hundred metres. From the trig point you can make out the following, with magnetic bearings and distances:
| Kinglake |
45°, 28km |
| Dandenongs |
80°, 31km |
| Willsmere Apartments |
160°, 800m |
| CUB Brewery Tower |
210°, 2.6km |
| Melbourne Cricket Ground |
220°, 4.3km |
| Eureka Tower |
235°, 6.2km |
| Central Business District |
245°, 6.0km |
| Melbourne Museum Wing |
255°, 4.4km |
| Mount Macedon |
310°, 59km |
The best views are in the morning, although the sunsets can be good too. I wonder how many cache locations can be identified from here? While in this area you should also consider carefully looking at Let’s Play Pooh Sticks (GCQHR9) by Biggles Bear. There are others too if you have the time, although crossing the river can be an issue.
The cache? Oh the cache! That should be easily found from the coordinates. You barely need a clue – but there is one anyway. Please note that while there are few muggles in the area, the cache location is such that they can sneak up on you!
