Geocache Description:

This geocache is located along the Northumberland Strait on Big Island, Pictou County.

After exiting Highway #245 and proceeding along Big Island Road, you will leave the mainland to cross to Big Island on a sand causeway. The road to the island is built on sand dunes of various ages.

Many locals swim at the unsupervised beach, along the causeway, with its warm waters and sandy shore. Ensure that you walk on the obvious paths through the dunes to the beach. This is to protect you and the dunes from harm. Poison ivy’s three shiny leaves are prevalent throughout the grasses of the dunes. Ignore the warning signs and itchy mosquito bites will be the least of your problems.

I suggest parking at coordinates N 45’ 40.489 W 62’ 23.403 and walk to the beach. Trek along the sandy beach until it changes to exposed sandstone outcrops and clay banks. The island's 'bones’ are exposed along this northern shore. As you bounce from stone to stone, you will notice etchings on the rocks. The flowing lines appear to be formed in the rock at creation or possibly sculpted some time afterwards. Mother Nature has also had her hand in sculpting these ledges to unique shapes through wave action and the grinding of winter ice.

However, the sculpture you are looking for has had other assistance. Was it supernatural forces or human hands that made these marks? That I do not know, but the sculpture carries a warning curse for anyone so bold as to attempt to alter the original design. The water side of the rock also reveals slowly disappearing runic characters carved into the stone. I have yet to attempt to record them or translate them.

'Read and heed' the warning curse at N 45’ 40.538 W 62’ 24.229. Then record your visit in the cache log located at
N 45’ 40.522 W 62’ 24.221 to receive credit.

The cursed in stone geocache originally contained insect ‘after bite’, a lunch box size cold pak, a mini screwdriver set, clip-on playdoh, inflatable thunderstix, beach tools, a pinwheel, a foam ball and a Frisbee.
