Geocache Description:

READ FIRST PLEASE: You need a boat to get to it. Do not undo what is holding the micro cache in place. You can open it to remove the log, while leaving it in place. Be careful not to lose the log in the water. Please put it back exactly as found, same height, same spot. Located on a canoe trail through the Great Swamp. Please use caution coming down the dirt road. You have to cross an unguarded RR crossing that is quite rough. Look both ways, and proceed with caution. It's bumpy too.

With approximately 6000 acres this is one of the largest wetlands in New York. Parking can be found at N41° 30.489 W073° 35.808. You can only use a canoe or kayak to get to this, no motors. If the swamp is really full, you could possibly lose the path. We once rescued a lady and her daughter, who were lost in here for three hours before we came along and led them back to the parking, (see here: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LUID=25b97aeb-4fa9-4b0f-86c7-73308b1defc4 and here: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LUID=4c098897-9a66-4620-bdf3-f633f8f2019c ) so mark the car, and leave a bread crumb trail on your GPS. If the swamp is really low, it might be harder to get to with beaver dams across the path. We CITO'd a can or two when we placed it, but it is pretty pristine back here. The swamp is 20 miles long, with 6000 acres and a 63,000 acre watershed. More information can be found at the Friends Of the Great Swamp link above (or FROGS, and we know we all love FROGS!). From the parking head south, you can't go very far if you go north, there is a beaver dam blocking the way, even when the water was high. The cache is hidden right on the trail. There is no pencil in it, please bring your own writing utensil! Please rehide it just the way you found it, so it won't be seen from distance. The trick is to pull it straight out, upwards, and then replace it the same way very carefully. Don't break either part of it. if it breaks, let me know, and I will have to find another spot. It should last a while if handled correctly. No manhandling this thing.
