On a recent Backbone Trail hike in Hondo Canyon we came across some ‘ruins’ – not much, just some foundations, steps, a gate … It's all that's left of two cabins which belonged to the Bragg family. Paul C. Bragg is considered a pioneer of the Health Movement in the 20th Century. (He died in the 70's at age 96). Fire destroyed the larger of the cabins in the 70's and the other burned down in the late 80's.
Anyway, we thought the area would be a good place for another Backbone Trail cache. You need to go off trail a bit, so please watch out for Poison Oak! It can be easily avoided. Cache is a small camo painted tube with logsheet, pen and a few little trinkets.
The Honda Canyon Trail section of the Backbone Trail is about 3.5 miles. You can access it either from the Old Topanga Canyon Road trailhead or the Saddle Peak Road trailhead. Either way, it's a very enjoyable hike and there are three other caches along this trail.
9/25/2010 PLEASE NOTE:
The original cache has been muggled/destroyed!
The n e w container is a small camo’d plastic bottle
hidden at a slightly different location (see new hint).
Thanks to ‘VCTrails’ for supplying the
