The hike from State Route 18 is a difficult one with much rock,
cactus, and steep terrain. It was 2.5 miles from where I parked my
car on SR-18 according to my Garmin Vista GPS; I parked at at 37
16.133' N, 113 38.367' W. I might add you can take a jeep trail
(which my four door sedan wouldn't do) which is at 37 16.802 N, 113
39.151 W off of SR-18 that will get you really close without having
to hike as much. I have not done this route but know if the jeep
trail from my topo maps.
The cache is on the edge of a cliff that drops more than 1300' feet
to the canyon floor. It is a fantastic view; one well worth the
hike. The cache is a historical cache regarding my ancestor,
Erastus Snow. Erastus was a colonizer of the St. George area and
key player in LDS (The Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-Day Saints) history within Southern Utah. The
canyon in view, Snow Canyon, was named after him. Within the cache
you will find a history you can read of his life while enjoying the
view. You will find, wind, cactus, juniper, and plenty of wildlife
if you hike the washes esp. after a good rain. See the photo I have
added to the online cache page to get a sneak peak at the cliff
edge.
