The antique site of Mahmutlar!
This ancient area is located at the street to Gazipasa, 16km from
Alanya (close to the coastal street from Alanya to the east). The
former name of this district is unknown, but you can find lots of
ruins remaining from the roman and byzantinian epoch. Unlike other
sites of this kind this one is located on the top of a small hill.
If you take the road heading towards the Mahmutlar-district you
will be passing banana fields getting to the site. The bigger part
of the ruins, that is visible today belongs to the byzantinian
epoch. They were built of natural stones, bricks and mortar. The
ruins of these giant buildings with its arcs and wooden stakes can
still be seen today and reflect the greatness of their time. They
are a historical link between today and the past. The ruins of a
big church, the public bath and the houses of people referring to
this epoch can be visited today.

Die antike Stätte von Mahmutlar!
Dieses antike Gelände liegt auf der Straße nach Gazipasa, 16km von
Alanya entfernt (nahe der Küstenstraße von Alanya Richtung Osten).
Der frühere Name dieses Bezirks ist unbekannt, aber man findet hier
Ruinen im Überfluß aus der römischen und der byzantinischen Ära. Im
Unterschied zu anderen antiken Stätten liegt diese auf einem
niedrigen Hügel. Wenn man die zum Mahmutlar-Bezirk führende Straße
nimmt gelangt man durch Bananenplantagen zu den Ruinen. Der größere
Teil der heute noch stehenden Gebäude gehören der byzantinischen
Epoche an. Das Baumaterial besteht aus ungehauenen Steinblöcken,
Ziegel und Mörtel. Die Überreste dieser riesigen Bauten, deren
Bögen, Nieschen und Holzpfähle noch sichtbar sind, spiegeln die
Größe ihrer Zeit wieder und bilden ein historisches Bindeglied
zwischen Gegenwart und Vergangenheit. Die Reste einer großen
Kirche, das öffentliche Bad und die Wohnungen der Menschen, die
dieser Epoche angehörten, all das kann man noch heute in
Augenschein nehmen.

Small note on cache maintenance: We talked to
nazbeg and he said he can do the cache maintenance for us. In
addition we know a german couple living in gülistan citesi close to
mahmutlar and they can also check the cache if
necessary!
