This cache is dedicated to the brass band. The British style brass
band is made up of 25 brass players and a percussion section. This
style of music really only began to take form in the early 20th
century. Many fine composers now write for the uniquely blended and
dynamic sound of the brass band.
The posted coordinates are the coordinates for the first
waypoint. Please note that you do not need to cross any private
property to reach this waypoint or to reach the final waypoint as
they are accessible via a snowmobile/ATV trail.
The first waypoint is a decent sized plastic container holding
CDs. Each CD is the same and contains 16 tracks of music. The first
8 tracks are excerpts of music featuring an instrument or section
that exists in a brass band. The remaining 8 tracks are the full
pieces from which the excerpts were taken.
The second waypoint is of the form:
N 45 1A.BCD
W 75 2E.FGH
The eight tracks of the CD should be thought of as being in
order ‘A’ through ‘H’. That is that the
first track is track A, the second track is track B, etc. To
determine the number associated with that letter you will need to
determine which instrument or section is featured by the
corresponding track.
They are coded as follows:
Instrument 0: Tympani
Instrument 1: Soprano Cornet
Instrument 2: Flugel Horn
Instrument 3: Trombone
Instrument 4: Baritone
Instrument 5: Tenor Horn (Alto Horn)
Instrument 6: Cornet
Instrument 7: Euphonium
Instrument 8: Tuba
Instrument 9: Bass Drum
Track A: Solo accompanied by brass band
Track B: A solo feature piece accompanied by brass band
Track C: A section feature piece accompanied by brass band
Track D: A solo instrument accompanied by a choir of the same
instruments, and guitar and drum kit.
Track E: A solo feature piece accompanied by brass band
Track F: A solo feature piece accompanied by brass band
Track G: A solo feature piece accompanied by brass band
Track H: A single solo instrument accompanied by piano
Digital root of ABCDEFGH is 2.
These coordinates should take you to the final waypoint. This
waypoint is a good sized plastic container covered with camo tape.
As a special treat, the CD Canadian Landscapes by the Maple Leaf Brass
Band has been placed in this cache for the first to find (or
first to find who is a lover of brass). In addition, there is Black
Dyke CD entitled Traditionally British.
Suggestions
Bring a CD player with you (in your car or wherever) capable of
playing the CD-R from waypoint one.
Please return the CD taken from waypoint one to the waypoint one
cache after you have used it as there is a limited quantity (about
5). If the CDs become damaged, please let me know. If you want to
borrow a CD for a day or two to study it, that should not be a
problem ... just don't borrow the last one.
When placed the cache contained the following:
- Canadian Landscapes CD by Maple Leaf Brass Band
- Traditionally British CD by Black Dyke Mills Band
- A portable FM radio
- Some music themed pencils
- A log book, pencil sharpener and a musical eraser
- Some treasure coins
As an alternative to visiting WP1 and obtaining a CD, you can now
retrieve the tracks from the following website gcwgyc.winterfamily.ca
