Geocache Description:

This micro is located on the Scenic 309 Byway on the south side of Mt. Magazine.

This is my favorite side of the mountain. I have competed in the Mt. Magazine 15k Run (from Havana to the Petit Jean Overlook), biked up (mountain bike) and over (road bike) the mountain. A put this cache out today after completing the 15k Run. I did my first rapelling just across the the road from the cache.

The Scenic Byway runs across Mt. Magazine, home to Mt. Magazine State Park Park and a challenging (in that only a few adventurous, brave folks have tried it) geocache of mine called Way Up on the Mountain (GCJ6E9)and another called Mossback Ridge Cache (GCVXOM). This micro cache is on the south side of the mountain at a bluff known to the locals as Goat's Bluff. There are some interesting things near here. Check out the rocks or the neat bridge just to the north. There is also a waterfall near to one of them that is mentioned in the Tim Ernst waterfall book. Also there are the remains of a car (57 Chevy the owner left out of gear) below the lower end of the guard rail. It may be difficult to see in the warm months.

It should be easy to find-the hint is a spoiler. This is a good place to stretch your legs and look around while making your way up the south side of the mountain. There is a large flat parking area across the highway. Be careful crossing the road. There will lots of traffic on the weekends (I saw a group of 8 to 10 women on Harleys go by while putting out the cache).

During the warm months you will encounter flying and crawling insects here. You may encounter almost any native species of animal here at any time on the byway. Please mention any encounters in the logs. In 2005, during the 15K run a bear crossed the road just below here at a water stop.

If you make the trip, I want you to find it-use the clue. There are two other caches on the south side of the mountain--one called Scenic 309 Byway - Foot of the Mountain South and one called Barber Ridge Cache #1 (GCWH2H). There is a cache on the north base called Scenic 309 Byway - Foot of the Mountain North.

Cover for this cache: Taking a break on the pull off to the things nearby.
