Come out for a day of activities, caching, and working on
geocaching containers with members of the
TriCitiesGeocachers!
The gathering will be held from 10 am until 4 pm at Fishery Park
on June 24th. Please bring a dish of something to share with
all the hungry cache container creators! Bring a chair, bring
a friend interested in geocaching. Come learn something new or
simply enjoy conversation with fellow geocaching enthusiasts.
10:00 – 10:30 DMFlyer will be fielding general
questions and giving hints and tips concerning the process for
placing geocaches and getting them approved. DM will have
some ‘ready to place’ containers available for you to see.
Come learn something new from a cacher who has the highest
find/hide ratio of anyone in our area and possibly the
world!
10:30 – 12:00: Shrek will be sharing his ideas
on how to create your own geocoin pages for the display and
safekeeping of your coins. Come learn (hands-on!) how to
create a geocoin holder with this fellow geocacher. This
would also be a good time to discuss geocoins and share our
collections with each other. Remember, it is helpful to have
a list of your geocoins already prepared for others to use when
they get home and wish to log that they have ‘discovered’ a new
geocoin.
12:00 – 1:00: Potluck lunch—bring your favorite
dish to share with hungry cachers who join us!
1:00 – 4:00: Create geocaching containers in
the afternoon. Haven’t painted an ammo can? Need some
tricky paint scheme ideas? Come and get some tips and tricks from
others who have out hundreds of caches in our area! Bring any
container and supplies you have (paint, camo tape, logs, baggies,
drop cloths) and work on getting a few containers ready for your
next geocache. This can include ammo cans, altoid containers,
sturdy plastic food containers, or any other ideas you have for a
good container. Leave after a few hours work with your containers
ready to place for the rest of the area’s geocachers to find!
Creating containers and placing your first caches will give you a
new appreciation for the many geocaching hiders who play this
game.
All Day: Geocachers will be available all day
to answer geocaching questions as well as show you any software or
electronic ‘gadgets’ they are using as they hunt for caches.
Questions about GSAK, EnRoute, Cachemate, or Streets and
Trips? Curious as to how a laptop computer and a PDA can help
you when hunting for caches out of our area? Want to go
paperless with your caching, but unsure how to begin? This is a
widely experienced and diverse group who are always eager to help
newcomers learn more about this activity. The Erwin area
(37650 zip code) is fairly cache dense and has plenty of caches for
everyone to find within a small area if you wish to cache either
before or after the event.
Please include what you plan to bring for the geocaching
container creation (containers, paint, camo tape, logs, baggies,
dropcloths) and the potluck when you post your note of
attendance.
