Spirit Quest - Freeborn Lutheran Church Cemetery
(Cache formerly known as Born Free)
The cache is located at the base of a tree and is across the parking lot from the cemetery. It is meant to be and should be relitively easy to locate. As with any cemetery cache please be respectful of the grounds and any possible visitors or mourners that might not understand what we are doing. Limit your search to daylight hours only please. Even though there are no posted hours, do not seek this cache during hours of darkness, this is with respect to the cemetery and church.
The Church was organized in 1894, originally called Freeborn Scandinavian Evangelical Lutheran Church, in 1900, the church was built and on January 14th 1901 work began on the cemetery. Early records for the cemetery were written in Norwegian. In the early years the paved walking path from the main road to the parking lot was a service road for the cemetery as the parking area that you'll be parking in to get to the cache was not yet built. In the early 80's the wooded lot to the west of the path was cleared off for additional cemetery space. In the early 2000's the service road became a path, and the parking area was built, but really didn't look like what we see there today until sometime around 2015. There are 319 internments and the cemetery as well as the church are currently active. Which this is normally a fairly quiet place to wonder around and look for a cache, Sunday morning maybe a differant story!

Nice (cache) in a rural setting - great for a break from the freeway traffic. Be respectful of the location & stealthy on some days of the week. Make time to look around at the interesting areas nearby.
