Geocache Description:

This cache was placed to bring cachers to the East side of the Bitterroot Valley and to share Minerals and Fossils we have collected in Montana.

The cache is accessed from Ambrose Creek Road, a main route up the Sapphire Mtns. It is on a small section of Forest Service land surrounded by the Bolin Ranch Conservation Easement (Private) in the lower reaches of the mountains (thus the name "Island"). If you have time its a nice drive up to Ambrose Saddle and south to Sawmill Saddle down to the Burnt Fork area east of Stevensville.

There is a wide spot in the road to park when you're about due South of the cache. The cache is only about a 500 foot hike from the parking area, but it's steep! Just to the West there is a draw with a game trail to take up to another game trail that will traverse toward the cache. Be carefull with younger children in the area for it is steep and rocky. The accuracy was only 30ft and several readings were taken and averaged.

The cache is an Ammo can stocked with Fossils and Minerals we have collected from SW Montana. There are multiple samples in each bag with a card desciption of what it is. Feel free to take out a sample from each if you like and leave the rest and the card with the description. There are some empty bags if you would like to use them. Trade what you want but special "rocks" would be great. I will add to the cache as we collect more interesting items. Have Fun!
