Geocache Description:

The cache is located near Portland Bill Lighthouse at the Southern-most tip of the Isle of Portland.

A lighthouse has been present on this site since 1716 guiding vessels negotiating the waters around the Shambles sandbank about 3 miles to the South-East as well as acting as a waymark for ships navigating the English Channel. The current structure was built by Trinity House early in the 20th century and became automated in 1996. The lighthouse is open to the public between April and September as is the adjacent Visitor Centre. The cache contains all the usual goodies. Please be discreet when retrieving and concealing the cache. There is a large car park near to the cache site. Why not combine this with rock-apes' excellent Roy Dog cache!
