On the south eastern tip of Østerøya, outside Sandefjord, there is a great view of the outer
Oslofjord and a great walk in typical costal landscape.
Bring binoculars and a flora!
Tønsberg Tønne has been an important navigation mark for sailors as long as there have been sea fearing vessels. It is even mentioned in the Viking sagas.
There are several explanations on how it got its name. The most probable is that it got its name from an old landmark that ones might have been here: a pole with a barrel on top.

Today there is a stone structure on the spot; a several meters high barrel-formed construction painted in white and black. This was build around 1900.
From this spot you get a fabulous view of the outer Oslo fjord. On a clear day you can see the light houses Færder and Svenner, and even get a glimpse of the Swedish shores and the island Koster.
Free parking at N59 04.512 E10 17.911. From here there is about 3 km walk to the viewpoint. Also accessible from the sea.

On your way out, you will pass great beaches for bathing (in the summer) and fishing spots. You will also pass a nature reserve with rare and beautiful flowers.
