Geocache Description:

This cache is the keystone for a series of caches in Oak Ridge deployed as part of the Oak Ridge Secret City Festival. Included in the cache are hints to be used for the other Secret City Caches. To find the other caches in this series, you will need to start here.

This series of caches was founded to bring Geocaching to the Secret City Festival in Oak Ridge. It will be maintained throughout the year by the owners.

The 2007 Secret City Festival promises to be bigger and better than ever! This year’s highlights include performances by The Oak Ridge Boys and Starship featuring Mickey Thomas, a World War II re-enactment, an expanded children’s area, arts & crafts vendors with a juried arts show, antique dealers, and plenty of fun, food and activities for the whole family. The festival site is open to the public, and most of the weekend’s events are free of charge, thanks to the festival’s many sponsorships.

One of the festival’s main events, the WWII re-enactment, is the largest multi-battle WWII public event in the Southeast. The re-enactment will feature more than 200 men and women who will enact the lives of WWII soldiers, medics and nurses, as well as perform fight sequence demonstrations, complete with period artillery, including American and German tanks and other vehicles.

The children’s area will feature a petting zoo, pony rides, mule & wagon rides, Euro Bungy, rock climbing wall, lots of free games and inflatables, karaoke, a photo booth, and an exhibit by the Home Depot.

Other highlights include a Manhattan Project Reunion and Manhattan Project site tours including K-25 and Happy Valley , Y-12, the X-10 Graphite Reactor, and the Department of Energy’s Manhattan Project Facilities Public Bus Tour.
