This cache is for those who enjoy steep climbs and bog-trotting across featureless moorland. There are no footpaths leading to it and I would not advise attempting it in poor weather.
The nearest parking is at "Tips Car Park" (N 53 21.562, W 001 50.349). This is also the recommended parking for "Get your hair cut" (GCNG08). The tips are spoil from the nearby railway tunnel. Go up the steps to the small picnic area and read the interpretation board which gives information about the coming of the railway to Edale.
The cache can be approached from the Pennine Way across Brown Knoll (be very careful, the Brown Knoll bogs are notoriously deep), from Chapel Gate track or from Dalehead.
The shortest but the steepest way is to follow the track to the National Trust farm and Information Barn at Dalehead. Call in at "Get Your Hair Cut". Although the cache is at the top of the valley from here, approaching up the valley past the waterfall is only recommended for those who enjoy very steep, very slippery scrambling on loose shale. A safer alternative, but still very steep, is to climb the hillside to the south of the valley. A zig-zag groove, probably an old "sled road" used to bring peat from the moors to use as fuel, can be followed to the top, then be guided by the satellites.
Please do not damage the cairn by searching in, on or around it. The cache is about 10m away from it in an obvious place.
