Rugley Railway Romp Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dalesman: This cache has been in need of care and maintenance for some time and as the owner has not responded to my note I am archiving it.

Guidelines: "You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing."

If you wish to contact me about this cache please use my Email address below my signature and quote the GC number of the cache. Please note this system is not infallible and I may miss any such mail.
Many thanks,
DalesmanX

Geocache Description:

A simple puzzle and pleasant walk.

Adopted on 08/02/08 by THE G5 - Thanks to Bewlers for setting this.
*** For those who have done this before: The clue location has changed (sheep destroyed its previous hidey-hole) and the puzzle co-ords have been tweaked to make them more accurate - cache location remains the same ***

This is the first cache we hid and we chose this place because it is so peaceful. The surrounding areas are wooded and there are plenty of birds, rabbits, sheep and cows (not to mention the occasional deer and badger if you go at dawn or dusk)!

This is a fairly short walk (0.4 miles) and you should park at the location given above (by the ford).

There is a section of the abandoned Alnwick - Coldstream railway line nearby. This line opened in 1887 and continues west to Rothbury before heading north alongside the A697. The line closed in 1953 after proving unviable in the face of strong competition from road transport. There are good views to the south and some interesting victorian engineering. The paths can be very muddy after wet weather, so dress appropriately. Please use the path on the south side to get up onto the line, as the north side is very steep and slippery. Use the tunnel to get under the railway.

To find the cache, You will need to discover a key. The location and identity of the key can be found 10m SW of the ford... (To make it easier, the key is in a 35mm micro)

This can then be used to decipher the following:

CACHE LOCATION: N55 23.BGP W001 43.YEL

Don't forget to take a pencil and a copy of the cipher!

Please return all components so others can complete the puzzle.

Original contents:

Ferrari 348 TB, 3 Mini Highlighter Pens, Multicolour Pen, Mini Playing Cards, Tape Measure 702, 800 and 801 Naval Air Squadron 'zap' Crests, Loch Ness Keyring

***WARNING: Although not encountered personally, there is a report in the logs about bullocks in one of the fields - shouldn't be a problem as the path is right by the fence (you'll see what I mean), but care should be taken nonetheless ***
