RACCOON CREEK NICHOL ROAD IN&OUT Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

pafarmboy: And then there were none....last of the Raccoon Mystery Cache series bites the dust. Kinda sad to see it go. The Doak homestead at stage one is worth the trip in itself.

Thanks to the staff at Raccoon Park. They've always been supportive of geocaching. I know they've even spied a few of you at George's DC prototype over the years.

Thanks to all of you, too, who've written great logs and awarded a favorite. It is much appreciated.

Hope you all enjoyed your trip through the woods.

Geocache Description:

This cache will expire on July 3rd, 2012

This is a multi-stage cache with 4 stages. It progresses from a nano to a micro to a small to a regular cache final, so there is a little bit of something for everyone on this one. Please note that I know a micro in the woods can be extremely frustrating even with dead-on coordinates. Using the hints provided will probably be of more use than the GPS when you are close. All cache stages are on/in or around (within 5 feet) of the hints given.

This one can be started from the following parking coordinates: N40 31.299 W80 28.915 This trip can be done on a mountain bike or on horseback, however, there are some rough stretches at times due to the horses.

The coords above are for the first cache. It is a nano, but shouldn't be too tricky when you get the hint. It will give you the coords for stage 2. There is also some neat stuff to check out in the vicinity. You'll know what I mean when you get there. Head back to Nichol Road and then take the first marked trail to get you on your way to stage 2. You shouldn't need any more guidance once you're on the trail. So on and so forth. The final is a .30 ammo can.

By the way, this cache is a long one. At least 4 miles if not more. However, all stages of this cache aren't too tricky and shouldn't be bushwacked. You will not need to leave the trails at any time until you are within 150 feet of the cache stage. This will make the trip longer, but much easier.

By the time you have reached the final stage, you will have made a very significant semi-loop trip. Follow the trail you are currently on to its end and it will put you back in, hopefully, familiar territory. I have included a link to a trail map that will definitely be of use to you: GPX FILE

Good Luck and check out the other caches in the park as well.

***AS OF 12/17/06, I HAVE BECOME AN ADVOCATE OF THE "DON'T LET THE CACHE SPOIL A GOOD HIKE" PHILOSOPHY. IF YOU WANT GUARANTEED SUCCESS ON ALL MICROS/NANOS OF THIS MULTI, EMAIL ME AND I'LL GIVE YOU FOOLPROOF CLUES TO EACH STAGE. I'M TIRED OF A DNF ON MICROS, SO I FIGURE I'D BETTER PUT MY MONEY WHERE MY MOUTH IS. CACHES ARE MEANT TO BE FOUND, NOT FRUSTRATING.
