jcar: I stopped to replace and found that the area appears to be a hangout now. I stopped later and while the area was vacant the belongings were still there. I found a couple nearby locations that would work but both were already occupied by letterboxes. Took that as a sign that it was time to let this one go. Thanks to all the visitors over the years.
