Geocache Description:

This is pretty much a drive-up, accessible also in the wintertime.

This was a major intersection of some well traveled roads before the I-75 interstate was built. US-2 (now Mackinac Trail) was the Michigan version of Route 66. This 2 lane road linked Sault Ste. Marie (at the eastern terminus) with the western states. As you travel this section of road, you can still see flashbacks of a bygone era with the Motels, Stores, Restaurants, and Roadhouses, long closed up, and deteriorating, that once thrived on the business that the traffic of US-2 once brought them.

Take a moment to review the monument and plaque here, dedicated to Frank F. Rogers, an administrater with the state Hiway Dept from 1905 to 1929. The long sweeping curves of the intersection give some clue to the speed and amount of traffic that used to go through here, but now is only designated as an MDOT carpool parking lot. The cache is very near I-75 exit 352, so it may well be used as a drop off point for TB's.
