This is not Dayton's oldest post office but is the nicest. If you
are there during the daytime when the building is open be sure to
take a look inside. The interior is Tiffany. It was built starting
in 1913 and the foundation was underwater in the big flood. The
building was completed in 1915 and was in use until the new post
office on east Fith Street was completed in the 1970's. The federal
government planned to tear it down for a parking lot, but the city
of Dayton traded some vacant lots for it and saved it from the
wrecking ball. It was used as an art gallery for a time. Now it
serves as the US Bankruptcy Court and also has several offices.
