Who: Open to all geocachers, families, and anyone
interested in geocaching
What: A social get together to meet fellow cachers,
exchange stories, learn about different aspects of caching,
exchange TB’s, oh yeah, and some caching thrown in there too….
Newport News Park is an 8,000 acre park with two fresh water
reservoirs is one of the largest municipal parks east of the
Mississippi. It features bicycle and boat rental, 188-site
campground, golf course, horse show arena, interpretive programs,
wildlife rehabilitation center, picnic shelters, playground,
restrooms, stages, 30 miles of hiking trails, 5-mile mountain bike
trail, and 5.3 mile bikeway, picnic shelters, and much much more!!!
Personal boats (no gas motors) may be launched for a $4.00
fee.

9:30 - Booklets/Poker Run Rules/Raffle opens/Silent Auction
opens/GPS Downloads
10:00 - 12:00 Caching/Beginner's Geocaching class at the
Campground Activity Building
12:00 - 2:00 - Lunch - Main dish is FRIED CHICKEN
1:30 - Silent Auction Closes! Update: You must be
present to win, and pay on site. Cash/Check/Paypal accepted!
2:00 - More caching/Children's activity begins
4:30 - GeoPoker Deadline!
5:00 - Door Prizes/Awards/Raffle Ends/Group Photo
5:30 - Chinese Auction/Dinner of leftovers
6:00 - Official Event ends
After Dark - Hanging out around a campfire at site 51 in
Loop "B". Please bring your chairs and drinks!
Activities throughout the day:
A 50/50 Raffle and Silent Auction will be held
throughout the day to help offset some of the costs of the event.
The 50/50 raffle drawing will be held at 5:00 p.m. You do not need
to be present to win the 50/50 raffle!The silent auction will have
unique cache containers, unactivated geocoins, and other geocaching
related items and will run from 9:30 to 1:30. You must be
present to win silent auction items. Cash/Check/Paypal accepted on
site!
There will be a Geo-Poker Run! Instructions for this will
be announced at 9:30 am and the deadline for your return will be
4:30 pm. THERE WILL BE PRIZES!
A Chinese Auction will be held *Beaconbabe* style
(stealing highly encouraged!). The auction will be a camping theme
with a limit of $10.00. If you’d like to participate, bring a
wrapped item, and write a note to hint what’s inside. Be creative
and have fun with it!
Greatest Distance Travelled - A prize will be awarded for
the team who travels the greatest distance to attend the event. The
distance will be determined "as the crow flies" from point to
point. To be eligible for this, you MUST record your home
coordinates and give them to one of the event volunteers. You can
also post your home coords in your "Will Attend" log by checking
"Add a waypoint to the log" when you log in to tell us how many in
your party will be attending. Deadline for this will be Saturday,
at noon.
Lots of Door Prizes have been donated
and will be given away at 5:00 p.m. You MUST be present to
win!

Bugs and Coins:
There will be a TB exchange table to drop off and pick up travel
bugs to help them towards their goals. There will also be a
designated area that all coin enthusiasts can gather to share/trade
their collections with others.
Please do not drop your coin collections into the event. Please
only drop TB's/Coins that specifically want to move via other
cachers or 1 personal TB or Coin.

How can you help??? Here are a few
suggestions:
- Bring a pot luck dish to share
- Consider contributing coolers full of drinks (ie: water, sodas,
etc…)
- Consider contributing charcoal for the grills
- Donate a door prize - anything geocaching related, or outdoor
related would be good.

It is Labor Day Weekend! We have taken the
liberty of reserving 15 camping sites at Newport News Park. We have
scoped out and secured the best sites available on the best loop
(loop ”B”). If you would like to secure a site for Friday and/or
Saturday night please contact Penguincacher. Campsites are
first come first serve. All sites are full service and will
accommodate either a camper, a pop-up, or two tents. All sites have
a maximum of 5 people or 1 family per site.
