First Monday Trade Days Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

la escondida: Apparently this unusual container is just too hard to find in this location and tends to be replaced about a foot away in a more difficult spot. Maybe I'll move it to be a quicker find. Thanks for looking and finding for 14 years.

Geocache Description:

A Weatherford tradition since 1859 - First Monday Trade Days takes place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday prior to the first Monday of each month.

First Monday Trade Days is one of the oldest markets in Texas. Parker County originally held court in Weatherford on the first Monday of each month. Folks would make the trip to town for this event and the monthly trials drew a considerable crowd. County residents began bringing in stray livestock to sell on the courthouse square. The idea spread and local shopkeepers added their own produce, livestock, and other items to the sale. Farmers, ranchers, and merchants would gather on the square to sell their products and visit with friends and neighbors. It wasn’t long before a businessman decided to give the market a name. He called it the “Stray Day Sale.” Other merchants in town caught on to the idea of the sale, and they started calling it “First Monday Stray Days.” As the crowds grew so did the merchants. More and more produce vendors came and other items were also being sold. Thus, what was initially a stray animal market gradually progressed into a farmer’s market and then eventually the open-air bazaar we have today.

Come on out and join the hundreds of shoppers and have a good time. You might find just what you’ve been looking for!

**Please DO NOT Search For The Cache During First Monday Weekend. First Monday weekend is muggle intense and Butchers Branch is filled with exploring kiddoes. If you decide to “go to First Monday,” please return another time to seek the cache.

First Monday grounds are located at US 80/180 and Santa Fe Drive, three blocks east of the beautiful historic Parker County courthouse and one block from the Parker County Farmers Market..
