Geocache Description:

Castle Haugh, is a Ringwork or Earthen Castle of Norman origin.

It is known locally as Cromwell's Basin, occupies the north west end of a tongue of high ground overlooking the River Ribble and commands extensive views to the north east and south east. The monument comprises a circular mound 5-6m high artificially raised above the external ground level. It is surrounded for much of its circumference by a dry ditch 2m deep. An earthen breastwork runs around the summit on all sides except the west, which has slipped away towards the river.

You will see when visiting, it is neglected history.

The cache is a small container.

It is easily reached via the nearby footpath (The Ribble Way) with a good parking spot at N53.57.452 W002.15.575. If parking closer please take care with traffic regulations.
