Geocache Description:

This cache is along the I&M Canal trail East end. It's about 3/4 mile from the nearest public parking. Bring your camera for some interesting wildlife pictures.

When Illinois first made casino gambling legal, one restriction was that the location had to be on a floating boat that was not touching land. One proposed and rejected location for the Empress casino riverboat was to be on the I&M canal near this site. The location was eventually finalized along a much larger river site about 1 mile South. If you reach the cache location but are looking for the Empress casino, you are definitely LOST. In fact, the Empress burned down a few years back and there is a different casino now. The cache container is a long dark PVC tube with a removable screw-on lid on one side.

1. Geocache is placed on Department managed property with permission.

2. Do not place the following items in the Geocache: Food items,inappropriate,offensive, or hazardous materials.

3. It is the visitors responsibility to orient themselves with policies and rules pertaining to this Department managed site.
