If you're coming from New Brunswick, I have suggestions on which
route to take. If you just want to go straight to Antigonish with
no stopping, take the trans Canada highway 104. If you want to go
caching along the way for numbers, take highway 6 through Wallace,
Pugwash and Tatamagouche, Wallace River has hidden many caches
along that route, almost all of which are family friendly. And if
you want to do some slightly challenging caches in scenic areas
along the way, take highway 2 along the Bay of Fundy through
Parrsboro, me and some other cachers have hidden caches at
waterfalls and other interesting places along that route.
If you're coming from Halifax, I also have suggestions for
routes. If you want to go straight through, take the 104. If you
want to find some interesting caches along the way, take highway 7
through Sheet Harbour, there are some caches in interesting
locations along that route.
So far, we have planned a scavenger hunt in the park with
prizes, and of course, a time when cachers can hang around and
talk, trade TB's and geocoins, etc. Later in the day, we can hike
to "J Marks the Spot". And at night, we can do the nightcache in
Pinevale.
Check out my bookmark list
"Caches of Antigonish County"
to find out more details about each cache in the county.
Antigonish County is home to some hard hiking caches like "J
Marks the Spot and "Zigzag", a great waterfall at "Lost My Way to
James River Falls", endurance testing treks at "Eagles Nest in
Sinkhole Woods" and "The Meadow Series" and many many more, so if
you're one of those cachers who likes to "clean out" areas, plan to
spend a few extra days. And if Antigonish isn't enough, take a trip
down south to neighboring Guysborough County (will most likely have
an event there someday too), home of great climbing caches like
"Dickies Mountain and "Big Rock Candy Mountain", one of my favorite
hike and waterfall caches at "A Bridge Over Troubled Water", the
infamous "Nova Scotia's Last Micro" and so much more!
We're still open to suggestions for other things to do at the
event, you can pm me with any suggestions or post on the threads in
MGA or ACGA.
