Geocache Description:

Come one, come all to an Introduction to Geocaching at Centennial Park. New to geocaching and want to learn some tricks of the trade? Have you heard about geocaching and would like to give it a try? Don't know a thing about it, but it sounds interesting? Then attend Introduction to Geocaching - a basic how-to on this relatively new and great sport that is sweeping the country!

Middle Tennessee Geocachers' Club

in conjunction with Metro Parks
presents an

Introduction to Geocaching

event.

Join us on Sat, November 11th from 9 - 11 am at the Centennial Park Picnic Shelter.

Learn how to use GPS Technology to find geocaches (containers with log books and trinkets). Geocaches are hidden around the world with over 7500 in Tennessee and over 2000 in the Nashville area alone!

Geocaching is a wonderful activity for singles, couples or families, because it’s exciting and engaging, and because most geocaches are hidden by a beautiful view, an historic structure, or really amazing hiding place – in plain sight!

We'll meet at the large picnic shelter near the train engine to discuss the basics of geocaching and give you the opportunity to meet some of the local geocaching enthusiasts!

Topics to be Covered:
Basics
-------
What the heck is Geocaching anyway?
How do I sign-up for a Geocaching.com account
Picking a Geocaching name
What are the different types of caches?
What are "trackables"?

Let's find some caches!
Next we will break out into small groups to hunt some specially placed caches for the event and learn about:

Hunting Caches
--------------
Selecting a Cache to Hunt
Putting Coordinates into your GPS
Navigating to the Cache Site
OK You got there, now where is it? Search Techniques
Finding It, Trading Etiquette and Signing the Logbook
