If you are my age or older (a half century)
you remember road trips with the family on two lane roads in the
family car. There were no interstate highways, fast food
restaurants and chain motels. Moreover, there were no highway
rest areas as we know them today.
There were, however, roadside rests. These havens
of sanity in a road vacation provided a place to rest and picnic
after being confined to an unairconditioned car all day.
Kawanavista was one of those roadside rests along
the Midland Trail, now known as US Rt. 60. There were picnic
tables, grill pits, outside toilets, a hand pumped well and a shady
place to relax.
The cache is across the road from the old
roadside rest. There is an easy place to park. There is a short
walk but it is STEEP. One wrong step could find you taking a
nasty fall. Hop in the old family station wagon and drive
over to Kawanavista.
The container is a small Rummermaid type
container that is hidden in a location that will be obvious to
trained geocacher eyes but well hidden to muggles.
Happy travels.
