Frontier Country - Salem Traditional Cache

Bosveldklong: Today I made a specific trip to check up on this cache due to the high volume of DNF's. Unfortunately the area seems to be a dump spot for cut brush and a swimming spot wfor the local kids. There is numerous footpaths going past the GZ which only means that a local found this hiding spot.
My sincere apologies for taking so long to check up on this one. Time to move on.

Geocache Description:

This is a series of 12 caches found in various towns in the Eastern Cape of South Africa that forms the frontier country.
This cache is located in an abandoned gravel quarry. The site is accessible by any type of car.Only a short distance to travel on a gravel road.

The Frontier Country tells tales of where British,Xhosa and Afrikaners struggled to retain land as the country of South Africa expanded to the east,away from the British colony.The wars that took place in the area was mainly fought over possession of land.
The first frontier war broke out in 1780 and market the beginning of the Xhosa struggle to preserve their traditional customs and way of life. It was a struggle that was to increase in intensity when the British arrived on the scene.

The Methodist Church founded Salem in the mid 1820's. The town is famous for its fine buildings and also for the historic negotiations between Richard Gush and approaching Xhosa during the War of Hintsa, when the Xhosa agreed to leave the village in peace. the cricket field in Salem have been used for matches since 1844.
