As rãs são animais da Classe Amphibia, da Ordem Anura (a mesma dos sapos e pererecas) e a maioria pertencem à família Ranidae que tem representantes distribuídos em quase todo o mundo.
As rãs vivem perto de corpos d’água, principalmente lagos e lagoas, possuem a pele lisa, corpo curto e inflexível, com patas traseiras bem desenvolvidas.
