Watch out in summer there are some nettles on part of the route to the cache positions, also you will have to climb over a gate.
The Nene way is situated on the outskirts of the fenland town of Whittlesey.
The river near this geocache is called Morton’s Leam and was the original course of the River Nene, before it meandered back inland towards Yaxley. This fenland drain was cut in 1480 whilst Morton was bishop of Ely. It is the first known straight drain cut into the fens and served as a prototype for later schemes across the region. The drain channelled the Nene’s unruly course direct from its entrance into the fens straight to an outfall into the sea. The parallel course of the present river Nene was dug in the 18th Century. The land in between the two is known as ‘the wash’. It is designed to capture and store the flood waters that otherwise would spill out and drown the arable and pasture land.
Go over the stiles that are labelled ‘Nene Way’. Please do not enter the private wildfowlers land this is private property, this area is clearly marked with signs. Climb over the gate and you are on your way to the micro container.
