Geocache Description:

This Cache is located at Audubon Spring Creek Prairie near Denton, Nebraska. It is placed with the help and permission of Audubon Nebraska, which owns and operates the prairie.

CarleenP hid her first cache, Spring Creek Nature Cache, here in October, 2002, not long after she began caching. (visit link) A few weeks later she took me out to see what caching was like and it was one of my first finds. Now that she has relocated to Illinois I’ve taken over maintenance of that cache and I decided to get another one out here in this fine Audubon Preserve. This cache honors Carleen’s first hide and also her 1000th find

The cache is close to a trail that loops through a stand of cottonwoods and up onto the prairie. The container is a standard ammo can with the usual log book and assorted objects, mostly nature related.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PRAIRIE IS OPEN DURING LIMITED HOURS AND IF YOU ARE NOT A MEMBER OF SPRING CREEK THERE'S AN ADMISSION FEE: $4.00 adults, $3.00 seniors, children and students, children under 5 free, $1.00 discount for members of the National Audubon Society. TUESDAY IS FREE for everyone. The hours are Monday-Friday from 9am to 5pm year round. The Prairie is also open on Saturday and Sunday from 1 pm to 5 pm during the spring and fall. There are usually longer hours during the summer. Please respect these hours and sign in at the visitor center before seeking the cache. PLEASE DO NOT cross the fence and approach the cache from the road.

Spring Creek Prairie recently opened a fine new visitor center . Information about Spring Creek Prairie, open hours and directions for getting there are available at (visit link) There are several miles of walking trails, multiple ponds, and areas of both trees and tallgrass prairie. There are also ruts from a cut-off to the Oregon trail on the property. There are some picnic tables, and restrooms available.
