Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Dee Bank Falls Geocache!

The cache is located near a set of waterfalls on the Dee River which runs from Three Mile Lake to Clark Pond and onto Lake Rosseau. It is a great set of falls to explore in the summer and we come here often to play/swim in the falls. Although you don’t have to cross any water to find the cache, I do recommend taking a few minutes to have a look around. Children always have fun here, however if you bring children with you, close supervision is required (and maybe a lifejacket for good measure).

At the bottom of the falls (near the cache) you can usually see a blue heron sitting on a dead branch to the west before the river narrows and several turtles are usually found catching some rays on the logs. To see the upper falls you need to cross the falls at N45 10.770 W079 31.225 which requires walking through approximately 3 inches of water on a fairly level surface – there are falls to your left and right from here.

This river makes a great canoe trip as well – about 2 hours and 3 portages along with crossing a beaver dam will get you to Windermere. This is a highly recommend day trip as either a backtrack or one way trip (with a car drop-off in Windermere).

Finally, if you’re packed a lunch and some fishing gear, there is a park approximately 300m further up the road with picnic tables and a toilet.

The cache is a duck taped Tupperware container approximately 6x6x3 that was placed to honour Canada Day. As such all contents have a Canada theme, and if possible trade items to carry on this theme. Cache originally contained: Canada baseball, Canada keychain, Canada luggage tag, Canada nail clippers, Canada flag tattoo, 2 Canada pens, the Lemon Fresh Dog Geocoin, log book (pen + pencil) and $1 Canadian Tire money for FTF. Parking can be found just past the cache at N45 10.794 W079 31.189 (as there is some more shoulder room on the side of the road).

I hope you enjoy the area and summer in Muskoka as much as I do – let us know where you’re from or if you have a cottage in the area!

Happy Caching!
