Geocache Description:

The dreaded word problem in math is alive and geocaching.

Attention class, attention!

Solve the following problem: If Farmer Smith has 12 shares of water but he must water three different sized fields, which field should he water first so that he can then collect the run off from the first field to successfully water the second field? If he waters the fields in the wrong order, will he still be able to collect enough water back to water all three fields before his water shares go to Farmer Jones? Should Farmer Smith bring a funnel, or just purchase more water shares?

When you solve this puzzle, please write on your posting the number of quarts, gallons, or cubic liters used to solve all three components of the problem. Just so you know, the problem can be solved with a surprisingly small amount of water and can be done alone, although help would have been greatly appreciated. No tools this time other than water tools. PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TAKE THE CACHE APART TO SOLVE IT. A little water will do the trick.

By the way, I mixed the cache containers up so even I do not know which one holds the logbook. I would suggest that you also switch them around as you wish. If you are vertically challenged or lack the typical number of left and right fingers, then I would suggest bringing a tall, full-fingered friend to help with this one.

For those of you who run short of the necessary ingredient, I thought I would tell you that the nearby Wal-Mart (about .10 miles away) sells Dasani water for $1.00 per bottle. Most gas stations give it free if you gas up or with a $.25 contribution if you do not buy gas. There is a car wash nearby where I imagine you could scoop up enough to fill your needs, for free.
