The mound country of Clark and Jackson counties is some of the most unique terrain in all of Wisconsin. Located near the driftless area, these unglaciated mounds were once islands in the middle of ancient glacial Lake Wisconsin thousands of years ago. When the glacial meltwater finally drained away to present day levels, these rocky mounds stood as striking sentinels rising above the countryside.
