Geocache Description:

After travelling the length and breadth of the country attending camping events, we decided it was about time we had one in our neck of the woods.

We will be camping at The Royal Umpire Caravan and Camp site, near Croston, on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd September.

The main camp area will be on the rally field at the rear of the site, as this is the only area of the site that tents are allowed. Unfortunately there are no hookups on that part of the site. For caravans and motorhomes, these can be booked in on the other pitches.

It has been decided that the best way forward is for attendees to book directly with the site. This can be done HERE or you can telephone the site on 01772 600257. They will require advance payment, so be sure you can attend before booking with them.

Camping for tents costs £11 on Friday and Saturday nights and £8 on other nights, if you plan on turning up earlier or staying later. This is for up to 2 adults and 2 kids and up to a 6 berth tent. Please see their website for other requirements.

Please also add a 'will attend' note to the cache page, so that we know how big an area we need to set aside on the rally field.

In order to make the event open to non-campers, a limited number of day visitors will be allowed to attend. Please log a 'will attend' if you wish to come, so that we can limit numbers as appropriate. This is just to be fair to the owners and other users of the site. If demand for non-campers is high, we will arrange to meet up at the local pub across the road.

For people who wish to stay for the weekend, but are too chicken to camp with the rest of us, there is a hotel right next door to the site. Rooms can be booked for as little as £35 per night. The link to their site is HERE. They also have free wi-fi in the hotel.

FURTHER INFO ADDED 10/09/06
The listed co-ords are for the entrance to the main campsite, so that you can check in with reception on arrival.

The entrance to the rally field is a little further down the road, on the left of the hotel entrance. at N53 39.896 W2 45.204.

Unfortunately it isn't possible for us to reserve an area of the rally field, as it is on a 'camp where you please' basis. We are hoping to bag the southern end of the rally field near the toilet/shower block. This is on the right as you enter the field by car.

FURTHER INFO ADDED 16/09/06
We tried to organise a booking in the pub across the road (The Highfield) on the Saturday, but they have a wedding party in and can't accomodate us. They can, however take us in on the Sunday, so the pub event will be on SUNDAY 24TH SEPTEMBER from about 12pm till 3pm. This will allow all non-campers to take part in the event, and leaves Saturday free for caching. Co-ords for the pub are N53 39.839 W002 45.131
