Geocache Description:

You're looking for an ammo can on this one. As you follow the trail to find it, you may not want to follow the most direct route unless you enjoy broken bones. Take your time and the terrain is fairly easy.

This cache is located near the old Enloe dam and power house. It is a beautiful place to hike around and explore. Watch your little ones as the river can be very dangerous in this area. There are places nearby to swim, or this is a great place to put in your raft or tube and take out in Oroville. We've tubed it and it was a blast.

On your way down to the cache, you may see salmon trying to swim up the smaller falls in the area. The salmon end their journey here at the falls, so in September and October you will see them jumping up the mini-falls below the main falls. Stand on the rocks above the river and you can see them all lining up to jump. It is a super cool sight to behold. The best spot to see them can be accessed after you find the cache. Just walk west, then down a small slope and then scramble up over an old stump caught in the rocks and you will be right next to a mini waterfall. Good luck!

The Okanogan PUD is working on re-licensing this dam and in a couple of years this spot may look completely different. If you want to see the latest on the progress of getting this dam up and running you can check out their website at (visit link) This is super interesting as the modern day trend of tearing down dams isn't happening here. It's also interesting to note that the Canadians have no interest in putting together fish ladders as their is no history of fish migrating beyond this spot. Personally, I can't wait for it to be up and running again as we could use more power and this sure seems like a logical spot.

Even more interesting than Enloe dam is upriver only a mile or so at Shanker's Bend. It is at this spot as well that they are investigating the possibilities of putting in a new dam. Check out the website at (visit link) Again, I'd love to see this one go in as it would give us more water storage, power, and more lake!
