Geocache Description:

This cache is located near a stadium that bears the name of a baseball legend who was born in Mobile. He was raised in Toulminville, and began his baseball career by playing shortstop and third base with the Central High School varsity team. His first professional ball was played with the Mobile Black Bears. He played in the Negro League for a time, but made the jump to the Major League when he was acquired by the Boston Braves in 1952. He accompanied the Braves when they moved to Milwaukee, and was named the National League's Most Valuable Player in 1957 when his team won the World Series. The Braves moved to Atlanta in 1966, and in 1974 he broke Babe Ruth's career home run record in Atlanta's Fulton County Stadium. Later that year, he was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers. It was there that he hit his final home run - #755. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1982.

I have stood at home plate, taken a swing at an imaginary pitch and run the bases of the old Fulton County Stadium that is still preserved today in the parking lot of Turner Field. Maybe one day the field near this cache will claim as much baseball history as that one does. I hope that you enjoy this cache and the others I have included on my baseball tour.

The above listed co-ordinates reference the position of home plate in this stadium. The cache can be found nearby at N30 38.8AB and W88 06.9CD, by substituting AB with the jersey number worn by this baseball legend when he broke the Babe's record and CD with the last two digits in the year he hit his final home run. This cache is best accessed when there is not a home game or other event at the stadium, as there is no need to enter the stadium or parking lot to find the cache. The cache container is a camouflaged 30 caliber ammo can. The original contents included a log book and pens, an "I Love Baseball" key chain, a baseball sweatband, a squishy baseball, a foam baseball, a baseball pencil, and several baseball trading cards.
