Cache is located at the Crooked Lake Prairie which is part of the Polk County Environmental Lands Program. Placed with permission. Crooked Lake Prairie is open daily, year round, from 5:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M Standard Time and until 8:30 P.M. during Daylight Savings Time. Please sign in at the information board in the parking lot near the trailhead, and note that you're there to geocache. Polk County's Environmental Lands Program is receptive to caching. Signing in shows that you appreciate this. Please be respectful of this property, its vegetation & wildlife. During the rainy season, expect wet conditions and mosquitoes so don’t forget the insect repellent and bring plenty of water. Be careful, enjoy the area and remember that there are always risks associated with visiting nature preserves. Make sure you grab a map of the area at the trailhead.
Area consists of wet and dry prairie, pine flatwoods, marsh, lakeshore and oak scrub. Prickly pear cactus is abundant on the property and care must be taken when hiking. Wildlife that may be observed include bald eagles, deer, gopher tortoises, Florida scrub jays and an array of wading and migratory birds.
