This cache is located at the site of the sculpture "Riverplay"
(nor: Elvespill).
The sculpture was erected in the autumn of 2001. In the
aftermath of the successful renovation of the area around
"Vaterlandsparken", the politicians decided to spend NOK 500.000,-
on this installation. Further renovation of the neighbourhood was
supposed to follow - but is still mostly absent.
Being a "sound sculpture", it was equipped with a "pickup"
floating in the river, measuring the river currents. Data from the
pickup was then processed by a computer and mixed with one of
several predefined musical arrangements. When you pressed a button
you got 2.5 minutes of sound. Then you could press another button
and get a graphical printout of the river movement during the 2.5
minutes.
In real life this sculpture had no chance of survival. It is
placed along a part of the river most known for its various dope
related activities. Also the sculpture was placed right across from
"Villmarkshuset", a wilderness company arranging, among other
things, canoe trips on the river. The sculpture partly blocked
access to their docks.
Within the first year of existence the sculpture was out of
order, due to damage both on the land part and on the pickup. Since
then Villmarkshuset have been torn down but the sculpture still
stands as a document to political incompetence and artistic folly.
So much prestige and money was probably put into the current
placement, that moving it to a more secure part of the river is out
of the question.
Those of you who never got to hear it in action will find sound
samples as well as more information about the project here. For more art

The cache is a very small plastic container, with just a pencil
and a log sheet - no trade items. Please be very stealthy, more
people are probably watching you than you would like to know.
Several types of public transport is possible. The easiest is to
take the underground (any line) to "Grønland", or tram/bus lines
11,12,13,17,30,31 or 32 to "Hausmannsgate". There are several
parking options (for money) in the vicinity. The closest is located
at N59 54.904 E10 45.680.
