iowaPete: This cache was a prescription vial tucked into a knothole in a tree along the parking lot fence line. 90% of the tree has fallen over in a recent storm. Surprisingly, the 10% that was still standing ACTUALLY HAD THE CACHE STILL IN IT!! [:O]
Unfortunately, when the time comes to remove the fallen part, I'm confident that the standing trunk will be taken down as well which means the original location of the cache will go away.
So, with a heavy heart, I have decided it's time to put this cache to bed. I think of oldtimer1 and his contributions to this great game of ours. This cache was included in his mix. In fact, it was placed before the Iowa DNR even began to consider rules and regulations for the placement of geocaches. He had been given a "blank check" to hide caches in any of the parks in the state!
That was a lonnng time ago. I haven't talked with any of the Iowa DNR staff who manage this wildlife area regarding placement of geocaches on the property. Maybe, someday, a new cache will be placed here.
My thanks and appreciation go out to all who took the time to find this oldie. It had a good run....
