An event cache intended to educate people in the tri-state area who have only heard of geocaching and a chance for experienced cachers to get together and help the newbies.
After accepting the position of activity coordinator at Grand Vue Park, one of my first goals was to design a program to introduce people to this wonderful world of ours. I have designed a day camp week involving orienteering using a compass and map, and at the end of the week, I will introduce the kids to a GPS unit. I thought it would be even better if on the Saturday after the camp, I had a geocaching event where they could meet all the cachers in the area. Unfortunately, I don't have any kids in camp as of yet, but I have advertised the event to the community in Moundsville and I am inviting everyone to come and check it out. This will be a great opportunity for experienced cachers to work hand in hand with some brand new people and teach them the proper rules and etiquette of our sport.
As such, I am very interested in getting a couple of experienced cachers to help speak at the event. It will start at around 10:00 in the morning and will last most of the day. I have reserved the red barn at Grand Vue which is where the coordinates will take you. Depending on availability, I will try to move us to a larger location at one of the shelters. I will also be placing a few temporary caches for the day.
Here is what I would like to know from people interested in attending. First and foremost, if you wouldn't mind logging your intention to come, that would be great. Second, if you would like to assist in planning or teaching, shoot me an email. Third, would you prefer it be a covered dish event, or chip in money for catering. Again, post a log or email me.
I hope to see everyone at the event, but I understand it is summer and people have a lot of plans. Also, I may post changes to the event, so if you want to put it on your watchlist, you will get the changes, I am pretty sure. Thanks in advance to all those who will be helping and to all those who will be attending. I'm sure it will be a great event for everyone.
